From August, 5th throughout August, 8th the “Blending & Segregation Forum 2019” will be held at the University of Purdue. Organized this year by our research partner, the Center for Particulate Products and Processes (CP3) at the University of Purdue in West Lafayette (IN, USA). Alexanderwerk will actively support the forum and of course also be represented locally. Matt Walczer, National Sales Manager at our US subsidiary Alexanderwerk Inc., will be there to present “The Power of Roller Compaction“.
Incidentally, Alexanderwerk Inc. also supports the forum with exhibits in order to support research in the scientific field of bulk material processing and powder optimization. The University of Purdue operates a WP 120 Pharma from Alexanderwerk in a continuous, integrated production line (blending, roll compaction and tableting) and is funded by the FDA for research in this area. Currently, another WP 120 Pharma is on its way to the USA in order to be able to incorporate the state of the art of roll compaction. Soon this WP 120 Pharma will be installed in the brand new “Flex Center“, a lab sponsored by the FDA.
How high-caliber the event is, shows the Scientific Committee:
Marcial Gonzalez, Chair Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Purdue University
Yi Fan Associate Research Scientist
Dow Chemical Company
Aaron Morris Assistant Professor of Mechancial Engineering
Purdue University
Maitraye Sen Associate Sr. Consultant Engineer
Eli Lilly and Company
Last year, Prof. Marcial Gonzales had been able to present interesting lectures on the continuous production of our WP 120 at the two seminars in Wiesbaden. While on Monday, August 5th, in the context of a workshop mainly practical demonstrations are in the foreground, takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday (August, 6th & 7th) a conference with 4 sessions instead. The key note speakers and session chairs are:
Jennifer Sinclair Curtis Dean of the College of Engineering
UC Davis
Richard M. Lueptow Sr. Associate Dean of Operations & Research, McCormick
Northwestern University
Anthony Thornton Associate Professor of Mathematics & Mechanical Engineering
University of Twente
Carl Wassgren Professor of Mechanics and Professor of Industrial & Physical Pharmacy
Purdue University
On Thursday, 8.8.2019, there will be an optional symposium, which, like the workshop, is limited to 20 participants. There are still a few places left at the event! Make a reservation “last minute” and meet great people from industry and research on site as well as experts from Alexanderwerk!

After Alexanderwerk had already awarded the poster prize for the best posters in “Dry Granulation” in 2017, it was obvious that this would also happen at the 9th Granulation Conference in Lausanne. Of the total of 125 posters, 49 posters had registered for the prize. After a thorough review of all registered posters, the circle could be fleshed out to 10 participants. These 10 posters were all very close together in the rating, but only 3 have finally prevailed against the competition.
1. Place – Best Poster in “Dry Granulation”: Finite Element Analysis: Feeding Powder Flow in Roller Compaction
The Poster was presented by Mingzhe Yu from the University of Sheffield (UK).
2. Place – Best Poster in “Dry Granulation”: Effect Of Ribbon Properties On Granule Size Reduction in Dry Granulation Process
The Poster was presented by Giovanni Bizzotto from the University of Padua (IT).
3. Place – Best Poster in “Dry Granulation”: Compaction Behaviour Analysis Of Granulated Materials Using Cooper-Eaton Equation
The Poster was presented by Sagar L. Uniyal from the University Toulouse (F).

Great feedback from the participants in Guadalajara and Mexico City confirm the importance of our international technical seminars. Matt Walczer, National Sales Manager of our US subsidiary Alexanderwerk Inc., was in Mexico at the beginning of June and supported two technical seminars there. His presentation entitled “The Power of Roller Compaction” was very well received by the audience and created a lot of interest in the high quality roller compactors from Alexanderwerk.
A big thank you to the organizing team of our agency Pacheco y Andresen!
